The most well-known beachfront boulevard in Beirut is the Corniche, which stretches from the Ramlet al Bayda neighborhood to the Saint George harbor. It is covered in palm palms and provides a beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea as well as some of the outstanding features of the nation, including the notorious Pigeon Rock and Mount Lebanon's summits on the eastern side. The former Ferris Wheel, which is still operational today, can be seen to the north of Pigeon Rock. The Avenue des Francais, also known as the Ave de Paris, was the inspiration for the Avenue des Francais, which was built along the shoreline of Beirut under the French Mandate of Syria and Lebanon. Along with being a fantastic place for exercise, inhabitants of all ages can frequently be seen strolling, skating, cycling, and running alongside the Corniche. With their fishing poles in one hand and their baskets on the side, elderly fishermen can frequently be seen along the rails or down on the rocks. They are occasionally seen alone, but most commonly they are grouped in groups conversing. Couples, families, and groups of young people in their best attire can frequently be seen strolling around the Corniche while pausing for coffee and tea breaks in one of the numerous cafes. If you want to spend a leisurely evening watching the sun set over Beirut's horizon, go to the Corniche. The Pigeon Rocks are likely the only naturally occurring features in Beirut. A vantage point is the section of the Corniche that directly faces these cliffs. Take one of the routes to the lower cliffs if you enjoy exploring. There are inlets and caverns, and during the summer, boats can transport you around the cliffs and caves.
