Dorsoduro, one of the six principal sestieri in central Venice, is widely considered to be one of the city's most realistic neighborhoods due to its lower rates and a smaller number of tourists. The best of Venice's attractions are located here, so you can get away from the tourist traps and see the city as it really is.

How to explore Dorsoduro?

  • See some of Venice's most prized artworks at the museum of Gallerie dell'Accademia. Its three buildings once served as places of worship but are now part of the museum. Napoleon was the mastermind behind this stunning art exhibition.
  • Dorsoduro is a Veneto region with its own customs and adds great seafood-based meals to the standard Italian fare. Cicchetti, a regional specialty of Veneto, may be found at just about any restaurant in the city. There are also trendy rooftop eateries and restaurants on the canal where you may have a hearty meal.
  • Check out works by some of the 20th century's most significant European and American painters in the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. A number of Venice's finest dining establishments may be found within walking distance of this museum. You may treat your taste buds to some of Italy's finest delicacies after a day of museum-going.
  • To get a feel of how the Venetian affluent once lived, a visit to Cà Rezzonico is highly recommended. You will be enchanted by this exquisite baroque structure, which features plush interiors, beautiful murals, and a winding marble staircase.
  • Travel to San Sebastiano and worship there. All surfaces of this church, from the floor to the roof, are covered in paintings. It is said that artist Paolo Veronese, on the run from Verona, took sanctuary in this chapel. He did not just stop at the walls; he also embellished the ceiling and the organ doors with his paintings.
  • Murano glass and carnival attire may be purchased at shopping markets called Marina e Susanna Sent and Cà Macana. Cà Macana's masks are so amazing that they have been featured in a number of Hollywood movies. The owner conducts workshops to teach you to make your own unique masks in time for Carnevale. At the same time, minimalist glass jewelry is the main attraction at Marina e Susanna Sent, making it the best destination if you are looking for a classic memento of Venice.
  • Locals come to Fondamenta Delle Zattere late at night to get away from the hectic pace of the city and enjoy a leisurely stroll. As its name suggests, it runs parallel to the Giudecca Canal, one of Venice's most picturesque waterways. This section of Venice is located at the southernmost tip of the Dorsoduro district.
