Jardin des Plantes

The Jardin Botanique Henri Gaussen, the current botanical garden, is located southeast of the city center, in the Busca neighborhood next to the Bridge of the Young Ladies neighborhood and close to the Canal du Midi. Although it was formerly outside the city walls, it is currently located in a region of extremely dense habitat that mixes older and more modern buildings.

The Saint-Exupé cathedral, the Daniel-Sorano Theater, the Natural History Museum, and the Medical School are all about it. Although they are extremely close to one another, a wide avenue separates them. Walking between the two public parks is made feasible via a metal footbridge.

There are various aging structures or remnants in the Garden. The beginning of the Natural History Museum can be traced to the 16th century. The entrance door in the garden, which was constructed in 1886, is a replica of one of the doors from the original Capitole. Virebent drew the Northern door at Ozenne Street.

Why should one visit the Jardin des Plantes?

One of Toulouse's most well-known tourist attractions is the Botanical Garden, which has a collection of miniature fountains and waterfalls surrounded by flowers and occasionally by ponies. The naturalist Philippe Picot de Lapeyrouse commissioned the garden's construction in 1794, and since then, medical students have benefited from the garden's therapeutic plants.

In this serene environment, read a book while sitting on one of the many benches that face the trees. Observe the variety of vibrant flowerbeds that have been placed on the grassy areas. In this well-liked area, go running in the morning or take a yoga or Zumba class. Pony-ride through the park.

Watch the swans and ducks while you unwind close to the stream on the park's southern flank. The playground equipment adjacent has a climbing structure, so let your kids have fun there. Climb the chic bridge covered in plants at the gardens' northernmost point. To get to the Square Boulingrin on the other side of the street, cross the bridge.

Keep in mind that these landscape gardens have existed for around 200 years. The park's free admission hours are every day from early morning until dusk, with fewer hours in the winter. Utilize the public bathrooms located on the park's southern side.
